Women and girls in Indonesia and around the world, live with certain social expectations that often creates a barrier of how girls express themselves. Beauty standards, society expectations and norms of how women and girls should behave, often makes them value and see themselves lower than other people. Insecurities and the urge of proving themselves, caused women and girls constantly comparing themselves and ends up always feeling less than they should be. Generations of girls are the power of today's society. Uniting girls and empower them to acknowledge their soul and uniqueness are important to shape future generations of care-free and fearless girls. Therefore, The Riotous Girls is here to make that dream happens.
The Riotous Girls is a platform and community for women and girls who breaks gender norms and roles. Here we celebrate diversity of each personalities, we empower girls to break society expectations. The Riotous Girls provide a fresh new ideas and perspective from girls through art forms. This project is to encourage more girls to embrace and create self-awareness and self-love of themselves.
The projects contains photography and writings or drawings and other art forms, that express the individuality of girls. The author of this project will try her best to see beyond their souls and brings out their personalities. The Riotous Girls also trying to connect women and girls through their stories and problems. This project aims to create a sense of togetherness between women and girls. That they're in this world, battling with their own feeling and situation, together.
The Riotous Girls believe every girls deserve to be free from any kind of expectations from society. We believe that every girls shines and radiates energy, that in a way they light up each other differently. We believe every girl are their own uniqueness and should never be scared of who they are. The Riotous Girls celebrate the riot of girls, sounding their own voices and lighting small spaces in this world with their love.
